Last month we supported the Hay Mills Street Festival, a free community event held at George Road Pocket Park in partnership with Acocks Greener and Yardley Neighbourhood Network Scheme. The afternoon brought together residents from Hay Mills, Tyseley, and the surrounding area for a celebration of community spirit. With local stalls, arts and crafts, refreshments and activities, the festival offered something for everyone, creating a welcome space for people to connect, explore and enjoy time together.
For us at TEP Birmingham, events like this are an important part of our wider commitment to the local community. Based in East Birmingham, we are passionate about connecting with the people, families and businesses close to us. The Hay Mills Street Festival was a brilliant opportunity to celebrate the area and support local activity.
Sharing Expertise
The festival also provided an opportunity to share practical advice and support for residents. Visitors were able to find out more about local community organisations and businesses, alongside practical ways to reduce energy bills and make their homes more efficient.
Nigel Lloyd from Acocks Greener played a key role at the event, promoting the Warmer Homes and Retrofit Projects taking place in the local area. These projects focus on sharing information about energy efficient solutions, environment saving technologies and green mobility options, helping support a more sustainable future for the Acocks Green and Tyseley & Hay Mills communities.
This helped connect the community focus of the event with TEP Birmingham’s wider commitment to sustainability, showing that creating a cleaner, greener future is not only about large-scale innovation, but also helping people make practical changes in their everyday lives.
Alexander Robertson of Webster & Horsfall, attended the event to share more about the innovation taking place at TEP and the Hay Mills Foundation Trust. Alexander also discussed the importance of the area’s history and heritage, and how the achievements of previous generation continue to inspire the work taking place today, both across our facilities and within the wider community.
Celebrating Shared Spaces
George Road Pocket Park provided the perfect setting for the day. The park participates in Hay Mills in Bloom, a community greening initiative focused on improving and brightening local spaces, which helped to create a vibrant and welcoming backdrop to the event.
For TEP Birmingham, supporting events like this is part of our wider commitment to being an active neighbour in East Birmingham. While much of our work focuses on clean energy, innovation and sustainability at scale, we recognise that creating a cleaner, greener future also depends on the strength of local communities. Shared spaces such as George Road Pocket Park play an important role in bringing people together, encouraging local pride and creating opportunities for residents, organisations and businesses to connect.
