How Innvotek is Engineering the Future from Birmingham
At TEP Birmingham, we are proud to be part of a clean growth ecosystem committed to demonstrating that scalable clean growth innovation and industrial economic growth can be achieved through collaboration between industry, academia, government and the local community.
Here, we’re shining a light on Innvotek, a TEP member since September 2024, and exploring how they have developed state-of-the-art robotic solutions to address some of the most difficult challenges in the inspection and maintenance of critical infrastructure.
Innvotek’s mission? To prove that there are no dirty, dull or dangerous tasks that cannot be automated.
For example, when offshore wind turbines need inspection 60 metres below the surface, or when critical infrastructure sits in hazardous splash zones where human access is too dangerous, that is where Innvotek comes in
Robotics that work where humans can’t
Innvotek’s multi-disciplinary team designs compact, mobile machines built for extreme environments — from explosive atmospheres to underwater operations.
Its robots work at height, in confined spaces, and across the marine environments that support offshore energy, shipping, construction and transport sectors.
The result is a safer work environment for people and smarter maintenance for critical infrastructure.
Right now, the Innvotek team is focused on developing and manufacturing Amphibian — a robotic platform that’s changing how the offshore industry approaches wind turbine maintenance.

Meet Amphibian: built for harsh marine environments
Amphibian enables remote access to critical infrastructure in conditions that would put human workers at serious risk. It operates in the splash zone and at depths of 60 metres subsea, climbing curved and domed steel structures with unique agility whilst carrying out non-destructive testing (NDT) and tooling payloads of over 25kg.
Amphibian is designed to support chemical, offshore wind, and ship-care sectors operating assets in marine environments. Key capabilities include reliable climbing on curved steel surfaces, all-wheel drive with active traction control, and multi-sensor enabled localisation. It’s easy to mobilise with a small team, extremely rugged, and built to maximise inspection time through fast deployment.
